VINTAGE FEET – CAPSULE WARDROBE BASICS

Vintage fashionFor a long time now I have been wearing the same shoes, I had a purge when we built our walk in wardrobe and am left with my battered old boots – worn everyday – a pair of Toms, I am yet to wear in – who knew canvas could be so blister inducing – and a couple of pairs of simple black heels. I am a huge fan of vintage shoes but they are usually worn in in the wrong places or in between sizes so I was so excited when I discovered Agnes and Norman in my latest copy of Simple things Magazine look at the beauties they sell below, I am super in love with the Mabel T Bar shoes top left.Vintage style shoesFor special days their sister site Rachel Simpson Shoes sells even more lovely styles, how have I not seen these before?!Vintage style shoes

DECOR SOURCEBOOK – GUEST BEDROOM

Hand paint your bed to match your roomHello, how was your weekend? DIY for us, the floor is still up in our office/guest room and progress has been slowed while a damaged joist gets replaced. So I am still looking at options for guest beds. This room will most likely be the prettiest in the house – as most of our house guests are female and my husband doesn’t have to wake up in there! We have a wooden bed in our room but I was thinking along the lines of a pale metal bedstead in this room to keep the feel light.French Style Day BedI love the idea of a daybed all piled up with handmade cushions in vintage fabrics, and I found this pretty cream Versailles daybed that looks great as a sofa and has a second roll away bed underneath so we can happily sleep two guests and it saves space while we are in studio work mode.French Style Bed FrameThis classic french style Loire frame is light coloured and with it’s simple straight upright head and foot ends, it would take up way less space then the sleigh bed we used to have. I would love to spray paint it in a lovely peachy blush pink or soft turquoise blue like the top picture!Modern Wooden Bed FrameFor a more masculine boutique hotel style option I like this Miami Wooden bed with upholstered headboard, it would look good with dark or pale linens piled high for a luxe weekend away feel. I have so many ideas, but I think I am leaning towards the space saving options that would come with a day or sofa bed most, any other ideas?

SPRING RTW – DETAILS I LOVE – AND FLOWERS

Saipua Flower BlogFriday already, and a week from my last post, so sorry, I have been doing hands on things instead of internet things. But today the sun is out in full effect and I think I will take a bus ride and buy some fresh flowers for my bedside table. Along with floral dreaming I have been peeking through the Spring 2014 RTW collections over at Vogue and finding some favourite details I would love to include in my wardrobe for the lighter days ahead.Michael Kors Michael Kors – Something chunky oversized and cosy – haven’t you heard, it’s not all sunshine loveliness here in the UK, and something short and flirty – as if I would ever bare my legs? But I am a fan of tiny floaty skirts tights on cooler days.Michael Kors Michael Kors – Something in dusty denim blue and something sheer and librarian like in pencil lead greys.Oscar De La RentaOscar De La Renta – something coral mixed with turquoise and something crisply white and demure.Burberry Prorsum and Bottega Veneta rtw ss2014Burberry Prorsum – something sparkling and bright for over the top and from Bottega Veneta – something painterly and multicoloured.

DIY STORE DECORATING WITH HOMEBASE

Pretty Cakes and StandI love perusing the aisles of a DIY store looking at things that can update a space on a budget, and easily blend in with our home filled with vintage, thrifted and junk shop finds. While the husband is poking around filler, silicone, saw blades and two by four, I am off looking at lampshades and glassware, he does however try to keep me close, once separated we can never find each other, end up lost in there for hours and who knows what I’ll rock up to the checkout with if I am left unattended! The last time we were in Tunbridge Wells we popped in to Homebase, and I went on a bit of a spree – here are the bits I picked up, and all for under £50.Simple Chic Bamboo Serving Tray
Simple Chic Bamboo Serving TrayBamboo Tray – this turned out to be just the thing to display our cactus and succulents on in the middle of our giant rustic coffee table, an island of green to calm down the living room, a place that is usually in utter chaos!Clear Glass Cake StandPretty Clear Glass Cake StandRetro glass cake stand – I have been looking for a clear glass cake stand for ages and this one with just a little decoration around the edge blends in nicely with all my vintage china.Pretty Wire Cake StandPretty Wire Bathroom TidyWire fruit and cake stand –  well not in our house, it has become very handy to keep all my sewing things in place when I am working on a project and can also be found in the bathroom keeping all my cosmetics etc tidy when I am not sewing and it comes in pink. The husband drew the line there though, maybe you will be luckier?!Cake Stands Trays and decorative boxesDecorative wooden boxCarved wooden BoxDecorated wooden box – now this is real joy, something big and beautiful to keep my paints and brushes safe, and the palette fits in too. I am looking forward to the days when it has become marked and spattered with paint and inks – then it will tell the story of all that has been created from it’s contents.

Disclosure: I received a Homebase Voucher as a press gift but often shop there and it in no way influenced my opinion of the products which I personally chose.

THINGS TO TRY AND DIY’S – FEBRUARY EDITION

Crafting round upWet windy and worse than ever, there is a moat around our house, but we haven’t slid into the sea yet and the roof is still attached. As you can imagine – with all this grey, gloom and giant puddles I’ve not much felt like leaving the cabin, instead I have been seeking out more fun things for us to make and do.

1. Make Rose Nut clusters for a grown up sweet treat, recipe by Marnie Engelander for Est Magazine Issue 10.

2. Paper cup gift boxes – Papermash.

3. Decorate with seasonal blooms and stems – my absolute favourite Spring buds are beautiful Pussy willows – smaller species of the Genus Salix, image found here.

4. Another fun use for all those floral fabric scraps of mine that are too small to use for much else – these sweet DIY Votives by Fellow Fellow.

5. Gold paint and glitter dipped feathers, just because I love sparkle and gold – image found here. Hang them up as a mobile, make an over the top dream catcher or pop them on presents like the lovely Emily Quinton!
