May, the month of promise, our first taste of hot sunshine, lighter evenings and bright mornings. So outside we go for our first picnic of the year. I am a picnic fanatic and don’t like plastic cups, plates or cutlery so we’ll take a simple meal and save the extra weight for real glassware, potted candles (don’t forget the matches) and vintage butter knives, I suggest comfy shoes and one or more strong men to haul the chosen bits of your home outdoors to a pretty country park or beach somewhere.

A big soft blanket covers the ground for a simple meal of bread and butter, citronella candles will keep the insects out of your favourite jam. Elderflower cordial with sparkling spring water sipped from recycled glass tumblers. Devour pages from a new summer book until the light starts to fade then wrap up warm in an oversized woollen, break the foil seal of a bar of chocolate and Dream.
